Syrian Rebels – Are the Moderates in the Lead?

The President, the lawmakers, and the mainstream media, for more than two years now, continue to bank on the assumption the Syrian rebels are controlled by Al-Qaeda, and the misinformation from MSM pundits, that we should not aid the rebels in Syria. Meanwhile over 120,000 have died and millions have been displaced from their homes. The refugee camp in Jordan is the 5th largest city in Jordan right now. This is the inconvenient truth.
We should make them watch this atrocity —> An incendiary bomb dropped on to a school playground.
My concern is the public has been ill advised. Below are, what I believe, reliable sources that the Syrian rebels are controlled by moderates. Considering we still do have some predominantly Muslim countries, Jordan being one, and our long term ally, Israel, who have expressed allegiance to the US, what happens if we do nothing?
I saw Brett Baird’s recent interview on Special Reports with Elizabeth O’Bagy. Brett deferred to her experience of the region. I found O’Bagey to be intelligent, well-educated, and informed on the people, the countries, the sects, and the religions of the Middle East. Her observations were based on actual “feet on the ground.” Looks like I made a big mistake on Elizabeth O’Bagey trusting Fox News to vett their sources. Recent interviews on Hannity also buoy my opinion a US precision air strikes will benefit the moderate rebels in Syria. Gen. Jack Keane, who also has had his “feet on the ground” in Syria states, “Moderates are in the lead…”, and Krauthammer on the same Hannity (Hannity appears to have removed the video from his show), backs Keane up. You can see the videos on “Fox News-Expert on Syrian politics, security speaks out.” http://shar.es/z9kSL
Looking at the challenges we have had in the Middle East region, Iraq being one, would we better off today without Iraq’s testy alliance? How about the Iraqi people? Do the majority of the Iraqi people hate the US? Maybe that should be a clue as to what we should do in Syria, or is it too late? So many lives lost, so many Syrians misplaced from their homes. Do they blame the US?
There are many in Congress, on both sides of the aisle, who oppose us helping the rebels in Syria. Rather than condemn the Syrian people, it strikes me that, as a Christian, those of faith, Christians and Muslims, are being slaughtered both by the governments of Syria, Egypt and Iran, the Muslim Brotherhood and Islamist extremists. There are even claims of the rebels killing Christians who have sided with the Assad regime, but I have to believe in the good in people.
On one hand, I like the way Greg Guttfeld said it in his book, The Joy of Hate “I don’t hate all of them (Muslims). I just hate the ones that are trying to kill us.” I have no doubt, we are in great danger. No doubt, there should be more support from the “good” Muslims, but they’re scared and intimidated, too.
I believe that the majority of Middle Easterners, regardless of what tribe, region, or faith, are basically good people. As Americans, we are rich in tradition for having helped innocent people in harms way, and we need to protect the Syrian people from further harm.
In the end I think O’Bagey is a legitimate source, whereas most in the mainstream media are hacks that are reporting on this story are relying on 2nd and 3rd hand information. Some might some might dismiss O’Bagey based on the history alone in the region. I believe. if you ignore all the rhetoric, follow the reporting of people like O’Bagey, Gen. Jack Keane and Charles Krauthammer the decision would be clear, to help the Syrian rebels.
If you believe in reincarnation, and we do nothing to help innocent people from dying maybe if we die and go to hell, we may be reborn in the Middle East?
